Where the estimates come from
Nobody outside a company can see its analytics, so every traffic checker estimates. This one uses DataForSEO Labs, which tracks the Google results for millions of keywords in each country and records which sites rank where.
For every keyword a domain ranks for, the estimate takes the keyword's monthly search volume and multiplies it by the share of clicks a result usually gets at that position. Add those up across every ranking keyword and you have the estimated monthly organic traffic. The keywords, the top pages and the position spread all come from the same data.
Each check covers Google in one country and its main language, across the 94 countries DataForSEO Labs covers. A site with most of its audience elsewhere will look smaller than it is.
How to read the result
Estimated organic traffic
Monthly visits from Google's unpaid results in the country you picked. It leaves out everything else: direct visits, social, email, referrals, ads, and searches for keywords the database does not track. Treat it as an order of magnitude, and trust it most when comparing two sites measured the same way.
Traffic value
What the same visits would cost as Google Ads clicks on the same keywords, in US dollars a month. It says how commercially valuable the traffic is, not what the site earns.
Ranking keywords and position spread
How many keywords the domain appears for in Google's top 100, and how those rankings split between position 1, the rest of page one, page two, and further back. A site with many keywords at positions 11 to 20 is close to much more traffic than it has.
Top keywords and top pages
The 20 keywords and 10 pages that bring the most estimated traffic, with the total count of each beside them. Most sites earn the bulk of their traffic from a small share of their pages, and these lists show which.
Comparing two sites
Add a second domain to see both side by side: traffic, value, keywords and position spread in one table, then each site's top keywords and pages. Because both estimates come from the same data and the same method, the gap between them is more reliable than either number on its own.
Compare against sites that compete for the same searches, not just the same customers. A competitor with half your keywords but more traffic is usually winning a few valuable terms you could target, and its top pages show which.
Why there is a daily limit
Every check buys data from DataForSEO, which IndexZero pays for: three lookups per domain, six for a comparison. To keep the tool free and without an account, each visitor gets a limited number of lookups a day, the tool has a daily limit overall, and a quick browser check runs before each one. A domain and country checked in the last day are served from a cache and do not count again.
The limits reset at midnight UTC. The tool only answers its own page: scripts and agents get the same data from IndexZero's MCP server, where research is paid for from a workspace's credits.
Frequently asked questions
- How accurate is the traffic estimate?
- It is an estimate built from rankings and search volumes, not from the site's analytics, so it can be well off for any one site, especially one with a lot of brand, direct or non-Google traffic. It is most useful for comparing sites and spotting trends, since every site is measured the same way.
- Where does the data come from?
- From DataForSEO Labs, which tracks Google results for millions of keywords per country. The estimated traffic is each ranking keyword's monthly search volume multiplied by the expected click-through rate at its position, summed across the site.
- Why does it not match my Google Analytics or Search Console?
- Those count real visits from every source. This counts only estimated clicks from Google's organic results in one country, for keywords in the database. Use Search Console for your own site's real numbers and this for sites whose analytics you cannot see.
- Can I compare my site with a competitor?
- Yes. Add a second domain and both are checked in the same country, with traffic, traffic value, keyword counts, position spread, top keywords and top pages side by side. The page address fills in both domains, so you can share a comparison.
- Is this website traffic checker free?
- Yes. There is no account and nothing to pay. Each check buys data that IndexZero pays for, so there is a daily limit per visitor and a short browser check before each lookup. A comparison uses two checks' worth of the limit.
