About IndexZero

IndexZero is an SEO research and monitoring platform built so that an AI agent can run it. Keyword research, domain and backlink analysis, SERP and local results, rank tracking, site audits, Search Console and Analytics reporting, and AI-visibility measurement are all available as Model Context Protocol tools, and as a dashboard for the times you would rather look than ask.

It is built and operated by Afterlume Labs.

Why it exists

Most SEO platforms are built around a seat: a person logs in, clicks through dashboards, and exports a spreadsheet. That model does not survive contact with an agent. An agent cannot read a chart, cannot click an export button, and cannot fill in a "contact sales" form to get an API key.

IndexZero is built the other way round. The 36 MCP tools are the product, not a bolted-on API: they are the same code paths the dashboard calls, billed against the same credit balance, returning structured data rather than rendered pages. They create projects and start crawls, not just read reports.

The practical effect is that an agent can do the whole loop on its own — research the keywords, start the audit, poll it, read the issues, check whether the rankings moved a fortnight later — and hand you the conclusion instead of a login.

What it does

  • Keyword research: turn a handful of seed terms into hundreds of scored keywords with search volume, difficulty, CPC, and intent, in a specific country and language.
  • Domain and backlink research: estimated traffic, ranked keywords, top pages, SERP competitors, referring domains, anchors, and a spam score on every link row — for any domain, not just your own.
  • Rank tracking: scheduled or on-demand SERP position checks, national or city-level, desktop and mobile, with the cost estimated before you run it.
  • Site audits: a robots-aware, sitemap-seeded crawler that stays on your origin and checks 27 technical and on-page issue types, with Lighthouse scores on a sampled set of pages.
  • Your own measured data: Google Search Console, Google Analytics, and PostHog reporting for a connected project, including striking-distance analysis and URL inspection.
  • AI visibility: whether ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews mention and cite a brand, what share of voice it holds, and which sources they cite instead.
  • SAM: an in-product AI assistant that runs the same tools and keeps a memory of the project between sessions.

How it is built

IndexZero runs entirely on Cloudflare's developer platform: Workers for the application and the MCP server, D1 for the database, R2 and KV for caching and storage, Durable Objects and Workflows for the long-running crawls and scheduled rank checks. The marketing site you are reading is a separate, stateless Worker, deliberately: a pricing page should not be able to take the product down.

Live search data comes from DataForSEO. That is what credits pay for, and it is why anything reading data you already own — Search Console, Analytics, PostHog, previously saved results — is free.

AI features route through OpenRouter to the underlying model providers. Product analytics is PostHog. Payments and invoicing run through Dodo Payments as merchant of record.

Agents connect over Model Context Protocol using the Streamable HTTP transport, authenticating with OAuth 2.1 (authorization code with PKCE, plus Dynamic Client Registration so no credential has to be provisioned by hand) or with a workspace API key for headless clients.

How it makes money

Subscriptions, priced on usage rather than seats. Every plan carries a monthly credit allowance; roughly 1,000 credits is $1 of live search data. The free plan includes 2,000 credits a month and the full dashboard, MCP access starts on Starter, and top-up packs never expire.

There is no sales call and no minimum contract. Sign-up, upgrades, API keys, and cancellation are all self-serve.

We do not sell personal data, and we do not use it for advertising. Data connected from Google Search Console and Google Analytics is handled under Google's Limited Use requirements, which the privacy policy sets out in full.
