AI visibility checker
Enter a brand, and optionally the category it competes in. You get a sample of how AI answers talk about it: how often ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews mention it, the sites those answers cite most, and how its share of mentions compares with the other brands named for the category.
No account. No credits.
Beyond the sample
See the whole picture of how AI talks about your brand
- Share of voice against up to 9 competitors you choose, on ChatGPT and AI Overviews.
- The questions behind the mentions and the exact pages cited, with the AI search volume of each.
- Google AI Overviews in other countries, and monthly AI search volume over the past year.
- Prompt Explorer: ask ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity the same question and compare their answers and citations.
- Every run saved, so you and your agent can reopen it for free.
AI visibility is on the Starter plan and above. Start with a free account; when onboarding finishes, it opens on your project's AI visibility page.
A sample is a spot check
Run the full report from your agent
IndexZero's MCP server has the full version of this check. get_brand_visibility compares a brand with up to 9 competitors you name and lists the cited pages and the questions behind the mentions, run_ai_prompt asks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity a question directly, and list_ai_visibility_runs finds past runs to reopen for free. AI visibility is on the Starter plan and above, and each new run spends credits.
Check how often [your brand] is mentioned by ChatGPT and in Google's AI Overviews compared with [two or three competitors], and which pages those answers cite most. Then ask ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity "what is the best [your category]?" and tell me which answers name us. Reuse a saved run from the last week instead of paying again if there is one.
What AI visibility means
When someone asks ChatGPT which project management tool to use, or searches Google and gets an AI Overview at the top of the page, the answer names some brands and links to some sources. AI visibility is how often your brand is one of the names, and whose pages the answers lean on when they talk about you or your category.
It matters because the answer is often the whole visit. Google describes AI Overviews as a way to get the gist of a topic quickly, with links as a jumping-off point to learn more. A brand that is not named, and a site that is not cited, is not part of that first impression.
What the sample shows
Each check reads DataForSEO's LLM Mentions data: a large set of real questions and the answers ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews gave to them. It looks for your brand name as a whole word in the questions, the answers and the brands the answers name.
Mentions
How many answers in the data mention the brand, for ChatGPT and for AI Overviews separately. Next to it is the AI search volume: DataForSEO's estimate of how often the questions behind those answers are asked each month. Mentions say how often you come up; the volume says how much those moments are worth.
Cited sources
The 5 domains the answers that mention you cite most, across both platforms. These are the sites shaping what AI says about you. If you give your domain, the page marks it when it is one of them.
Share of voice in a category
With a category such as "crm software", the check also reads the answers about that category and counts the brands they name. Your share is your mentions out of the mentions of the top brands named, up to 20. The page shows the 5 most-named brands and where you rank. If you are not among the top brands, you get no share rather than a share of zero: you may be named, just less often than the brands listed.
How it differs from rank tracking
Rank tracking asks one question with one answer: at which position does this URL appear for this keyword, in this place, today. A results page is a list, and a position is a number you can watch move.
AI answers are not a list. They are written fresh, differ from one asking to the next, name brands without ranking them, and draw on a different set of sources each time. There is no position to check, so AI visibility is measured by counting across many questions: how often you are named, next to whom, and on whose evidence. Google says there are no special requirements to appear in AI Overviews, so the classic work still counts; this measures whether it shows up in the answers.
What the sample does not show
- Markets other than the United States in English. DataForSEO has ChatGPT data for that market only, and the sample keeps both platforms in the same market so the numbers compare.
- A comparison with competitors you choose. The category share counts the brands AI names on its own.
- The questions behind the mentions, the individual pages cited, or how the numbers move over time.
- Claude, Gemini and Perplexity. There is no mentions data for them; their answers are sampled by asking them questions directly, which Prompt Explorer in IndexZero does.
Brand names that are also common words, such as Apple or Notion, pick up mentions that are not about the brand, because the match is on the word. A more specific name or the product's full name gives a cleaner count.
Why there is a daily limit
Every check buys up to four lookups from DataForSEO, which IndexZero pays for, so this is the most tightly limited of the free tools: each visitor gets two checks a day, the tool has a small daily limit overall, and a quick browser check runs before each one.
The same brand and category are served from a cache for a week, so a repeat check, or someone opening a link you shared, costs nothing and does not count against anyone's limit. It also means a result can be up to a week old. The limits reset at midnight UTC.
Frequently asked questions
- What is AI visibility?
- How often AI assistants and AI search features, such as ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews, name your brand when they answer questions, and which sources they cite when they do. It is the AI-answer counterpart of search rankings.
- Is this AI visibility checker free?
- Yes. There is no account and nothing to pay. Each check buys data that IndexZero pays for, so each visitor gets two checks a day, and a brand checked in the last week is served from a cache.
- What does the free sample leave out?
- Competitors you choose, markets outside the United States, the questions behind each mention, the individual pages cited, and history over time. Those are in IndexZero's full AI visibility reports, on the Starter plan and above.
- How is AI visibility different from rank tracking?
- Rank tracking reports one URL's position for one keyword on a results page. AI answers have no positions and change between askings, so AI visibility counts how often a brand is named and cited across many real questions instead.
- Why does my brand show no mentions?
- The data may not include questions where AI names it yet, which is common for new or niche brands, or the name may be spelled differently in answers. Try the name as customers write it. The sample only covers United States English answers.
