SEO agent skills pack

A tool list tells an agent what it can call. A skill tells it how to do the job: which calls to make in which order, what to check before spending credits, and what the finished report looks like. These are the ones we wrote for IndexZero's MCP tools.

What's in a skill

Each skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file. It opens with a one-line description the agent reads to decide when the skill applies, followed by the steps, the guardrails, and the shape of the output. The site audit skill also ships an HTML template for its one-page report.

All of them share one reference file that lists IndexZero's MCP tools, marks which ones spend credits, and says what IndexZero can't do: there is no live organic SERP tool, no fetching of other sites' pages, and no contact data. The skills send the agent to its own web search for those and tell it to say which source it used.

Installing the pack

Claude Code loads skills from ~/.claude/skills for every project, or from .claude/skills inside one repository. Unzip the pack into either folder and start a new session:

  • unzip indexzero-seo-skills.zip -d ~/.claude/skills

Agents without skill support can still use them. Point the agent at a SKILL.md file and ask it to follow the steps.

What they need to run

The skills call IndexZero's MCP server, so the agent needs a connected workspace. MCP access starts on the Starter plan at $29 a month. A free account can download the pack but can't connect an agent.

Calls that buy live search data spend workspace credits. The skills tell the agent to check the balance before a batch of paid calls, to use free data first (your Search Console and Analytics, saved keywords, stored audit and tracker results), and to ask before anything expensive. A rank tracker run always gets a cost estimate and your confirmation first.
