The 54 tools come in groups, in roughly the order an agent works through a task:

They are the same tools the dashboard uses, on the same projects, spending the same credits. The tool catalog lists every one with the JSON Schema for its arguments and whether it costs credits, and you can read it without an account.

Clients with OAuth support need only the URL. They register themselves and open a browser window where you approve access to your workspace. In Claude Code:

Official guides cover Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, Hermes, OpenClaw, and any client that speaks MCP over Streamable HTTP works. Scripts, CI jobs and server-side agents send an iz_ API key as an x-api-key header instead. Keys reach the MCP endpoint only, never account or billing settings.

• The tools write as well as read. An agent can create the project, start the crawl, build and run the tracker, and save the keywords without you clicking through setup.
• Cost is visible before spend. Tool descriptions say whether a call costs credits, estimate_rank_tracker_cost prices a rank check for free (exactly, for a manual run), and run_rank_tracker refuses to run above a maxCostCredits ceiling.
• The server's instructions tell every connected agent to check the balance with whoami first and to confirm with you before any single action expected to cost more than about 2,000 credits.
• Slow work is explicit. Site audits return an id straight away and the descriptions tell the agent to poll until the crawl completes, so it doesn't report on a half-finished crawl.
• Every result carries the rows as a text table and as structured data, and where there is one, a link to the same view in the dashboard. Errors come back as tool results with a hint about what to do next.
• Project context and saved reports persist between sessions, so the next session starts where the last one ended.

Your agent spends the same credits as the dashboard, from the same balance. Every plan includes unlimited members and agents, so connecting a second agent or adding a teammate costs nothing by itself. The research they run is what spends credits.

Reading your own Search Console, Google Analytics and PostHog data is always free, as is anything the workspace has already paid for. The free plan includes 2,000 credits a month.

What it isn't for: IndexZero measures and diagnoses, and none of the tools writes to your website or CMS. There is no tool that returns Google's organic results page for an arbitrary query, and the site audit is built to crawl your own site.
