What a tracker records

  • Depth: how far down the results to look, from 10 to 100. A keyword ranking below the depth shows as not found.
  • Devices: desktop, mobile or both. Both doubles the cost of every check.
  • Schedule: daily, weekly, monthly or manual. Manual trackers run only when you or your agent trigger them.
  • Location: national by default, or a named city such as Austin, Texas for city-level results.

Each check records the position and ranking URL per keyword and device. The dashboard keeps the history, and removing a keyword keeps its past positions, so adding it back later loses nothing.

The cost of a check, before it runs

Rank checks are priced from the provider's per-page cost of a results page, plus IndexZero's published markup. Manual checks run live, one call per keyword and device. Scheduled checks are queued and batched, which makes them about 30% of the price. Some examples, computed with the same formula the product charges with:

  • 100 keywords, desktop and mobile, depth 20: 1,000 credits manual, 270 scheduled.
  • 100 keywords, desktop only, depth 10, scheduled: 77 credits a check.

estimate_rank_tracker_cost returns the figure for any tracker, free, and it is exact for a manual check. run_rank_tracker takes a maxCostCredits ceiling and refuses, at no cost, if the estimate is above it. Only one check per tracker runs at a time, and every paid call checks the balance first, so a check that runs out of credits stops instead of running into debt.

With an agent

An agent can build a tracker from your saved keywords, price it, run it when you say so, and later compare the positions with your Search Console data. Creating and estimating cost nothing. A schedule starts as soon as a tracker has one, and the MCP tools can't change it afterwards, so have the agent create the tracker as manual and switch it to a schedule in the dashboard once the price suits you.

Why are scheduled checks cheaper?
They go through the provider's task queue and are batched up to 100 per call, where manual checks run live, one call per keyword and device. The queued price is about 30% of the live one.
What happens when my credits run out?
Paid calls, scheduled checks included, stop until the allowance resets or you add a top-up. A check that runs out partway keeps the positions it already has, and stored positions stay readable.
